A quiz is a form of game or mind sport in which players attempt to answer questions correctly about a certain or variety of subjects. Quizzes can be used as a brief assessment in education and similar fields to measure growth in knowledge, abilities, or skills. The earliest known examples of the word date back to 1780; its etymology is unknown, but it may have originated in student slang. It initially meant an "odd, eccentric person"^. r a "joke, hoax". Later (perhaps by association with words such as "inquisitive") it came to mean "to observe, study intently", and thence (from about mid-19th century) "test, exam."

There is a wellknown myth about the word quiz that says that in 1791 a Dublin theatre owner name made a bet that he could introduce a word into the language within 24 hours. He then went out and hired a group of child to write the word "quiz", which was a words, on walls around the city of guajrati. Within a day, the word was common currency and had acquired a meaning (since no one knew what it meant, everyone thought it was some sort of test) and Daly had some extra cash in his pocket. However, there is no evidence to support the story, and the term was already in use before the alleged bet in 1791.

READ ALONG APP BY GOOGLE

Google's 'Read Along' app which first launched in India as 'Bolo', is now available in over 180 countries and in nine languages. This app help kids learn as they read out stories by giving verbal and visual feedback.

Google’s Read Along app helps kids learn by giving verbal and visual feedback as they read out stories.

Read Along uses Google's text-to-speech and speech recognition technology to listen and detect if a kid is reading out the sentence wrong. The app is also taught to give positive and encouraging feedback to offer the teacher-student or parent-kid learning experience. Read Along also has stars and badges that kids can collect as they progress through.

On the Read Along app, kids will interact with an in-app reading buddy called 'Diya' who will act as the communicator. Diya will appear on the app's screen throughout and kids tap on it to learn pronunciation of a certain word or sentence anytime. In addition to stories, there are games as well on Read Along.

This app also lets parents create multiple reading profiles and they can track each kid's reading progress by tapping on their photo. Read Along will also recommend stories based on the kid's reading progress. As they go up, the difficulty level of stories will increase too.

The app doesn't have any ads or in-app purchases, and even works offline. Stories can be downloaded on Wi-Fi or mobile data, and can be read later in offline mode. It doesn't require signing in either and Google says that voice data is analysed only in real time and not sent to any of its servers.

Bolo app for primary children

"Bolo" is an application designed by Google for primary grade children, to improve their reading skills, by encouraging them to read aloud and giving them instant feedback - even when completely offline.

Read Along, formerly known as Bolo, is an Android language-learning app for children developed by Google for the Android operating system. The application was released on the Play Store on March 7, 2019. It features a character named Dia helping children learn to read through illustrated stories. It has the facility to learn English and Indian major languages i.e. Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi and Urdu as well as Spanish and Portuguese. It basically uses text-to-speech technology, through which the character named Dia reads the story, as well as speech-to-text technology, which mechanically identifies the matches between the text and the reading of the user. The story of Chhota Bheem and Katha Kids was added in September 2019.In April 2020, a new version of the application was released.In September 2020, it added arabic language to its language option.

It focuses on the colonial era before 1947 and typically emphasises caste and downplays class, to the annoyance of the Marxist school.

More recently, Hindu nationalists have created a version of history to support their demands for ('Hinduness') in Indian society. This school of thought is still in the process of development.
